The first version of his novella \"Lunar Caustic\" was written there, in which he<br \/>\ndescribes drinking experiences. In 1955 he was again in treatment, but was discharged as incurable; in 1957 he died of sleeping pill poisoning. \"Lunar Caustic\" was only published posthumously in 1963.
