In this text written for the theatre, as in many of his films, Pasolini approaches the themes of the time via ancient tragedy motifs. Here it is the classic father-son motif, the Oedipus tragedy. However, it is mirrored: it is the father who kills the son. Pasolini is concerned with the generation conflict in all its topicality, as expressed in the student protest movement.
