7 June 2026, 18:30, Deutschlandfunk Kultur:

"Kanak Sprak" Radio play by Feridun Zaimoglu.

Repetition.

Directed by Götz Naleppa.

(DLR Berlin/SDR 1997).

„Kanake“, no longer a slur, but – also through the influences of music and literature – a name that an increasing number of second and third-generation „guest worker children“ proudly bear with defiance. In the mid-90s, Feridun Zaimoglu interviewed young Turks about their lives in Germany and artistically processed their often radical confessions.

Your „Kanaken-Sprache“ – a jargon that transfers the colourful Turkish language into German, a mix of native dialects and street German – coalesces with all its hardness and poetry into a shrill, anarchic canon.

Cast: Ali Aksoy, Ole Peter Jeß, Aykut Kayacik, Mürtüz Yolcu, and others.

Production: DeutschlandRadio Berlin/ Süddeutscher Rundfunk 1997

Length: 51'38

„Kanak Sprak“ was also released on CD.
