Uncle Vinnie is reminiscent of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya from afar. In the American author's radio play, meanwhile, he has turned into a television star who has grown old and long since been booted out, living in a run-down house on the west coast of California. He bullies the few people who can still stand to be near him in the most absurd ways.
