Content:
Paul Bowles loved traditional Moroccan music, he enjoyed smoking a kif pipe and letting the repetitive sounds put him in a trance. The longer he lived in Tangier, northern Morocco, the greater his fear that the musical tradition would be destroyed by the country's modernist cultural policies. In short order, he set out with a heavy-as-hell tape machine and a VW Beetle to seek out musicians in the far corners of the mountains and deserts and record their performances. His journey was not without obstacles.
