Faust, after moving and shattering events, is taken up to heaven after all, tries desperately to justify his earthly way of life and no longer understands his own words. Not because of the loud singing of the angels, but because of the different nature of the heavenly language. Nevertheless, he gives free rein to his speech and his 'Faustian liveliness' and forgets himself in the depth of the moment, which turns out to be exactly what he had painstakingly sought in the first two parts of J. W. von Goethe's tragedy.
This composition for gong and voice originated in the work on 'The Tablets of the Law', a 1999 piece produced in Michael Vetter's 'Academia Capraia'.
