Since the fall of the Wall, there has been a certain national bisexuality at play. I would love to declare myself a zone border area all the time. Perhaps the smartest thing to do is to leave the distinctions at home, which the concentrated economic miracle will eventually stamp out anyway, if it comes. So I postpone the identity problem until after the miracle? I am not comfortable with that. The direct link between self-discovery and upswing/East could turn into a German tragedy.
John von Düffel has written a monologue that describes futile German-German rapprochement in a striking way, very satirical and quite serious.
