Julius is in the fourth grade. He and the other pupils like their teacher Klara Meindert very much. But she is seriously ill and everyone has known for a short time that she will not get better. As long as she can, she wants to stay in class with the children. This way they can slowly say goodbye to each other. Julius' mother would prefer the teacher to retire. But Julius and his friends want to give Klara a farewell present. They build her a coffin. A colourful, cheerful one that she doesn't have to be afraid of. When Julius' mother finds out what is going on in the shed, she quickly puts a stop to it. She thinks that children should not be confronted with death. The children are at a loss. But Julius' grandfather has an idea.

The taboo subject of "death" in of a story for children? Does it have to be or is it allowed to be? This very question is also the basis of "Klara's Box". Like the mother of the protagonist Julius, the listener is initially disconcerted by how offensively the imminent death of the class teacher Klara is dealt with here. The horror of this news paralyses at first, but then channels into a hopeful action... "Klaras Kiste" is a radio play that will probably not leave any listener cold. Even and especially adults should listen to it, because this story succeeds in taking a very unique look at the taboo subject of death. I give it an unqualified recommendation!
